Nokia Announced N900 Linux Based Mobile Phone Officially

The Nokia N900 makes its official appearance and marks the next phase in the evolution of the much acclaimed Maemo software. It has taken its cues from the world of desktop computing, Linux-based Maemo software that delivers a PC like experience on a mobile phone.

The all new Nokia N900 mobile has evolved from Nokia's previous generation of Internet Tablets. It also broadens the choice for technology aficionados that appreciate the ability to multitask and browse the internet with desktop like experience. The Nokia N900 runs on new Maemo 5 software. It is designed to empower users enabling them to have dozens of application open whilst working. The cellular features like touch screen and QWERTY keyboard are the added advantages.

The Nokia N900 runs on Linux-based Maemo 5 OS with power lying in the multi-tasking abilities. This ability makes Nokia N900 stand amongst the Symbian Smartphones. Nokia representatives say the Maemo device is not meant to compete with the Nokia Symbian Smartphones. According to them it is meant to cater to different market needs.

Nokia N900 is Wi-Fi and HSPA enabled and packs in a powerful ARM Cortex-A8 CPU akin to the Apple iPhone 3GS, Palm Pre and Samsung Omnia HD. It offers hardware graphics acceleration and 256MB RAM.

The other features include large 3.5-inch touchscreen display with a WVGA resolution (800 x 480 pixels) and the 3-row QWERTY keypad. The touch screen offers a virtual on-screen keyboard and makes possible a stylus operation. Nokia N900 has commendable storage options including a 32 GB of storage, expandable up to 48 GB via a microSD card. GPS receiver with Ovi Maps, FM transmitter, a 3.5mm audio jack with TV-out function, Bluetooth and DivX/XviD video playback support are the other features included.
The camera option cannot be ignored as the Maemo software and the Nokia N900 come with a new tag cloud user interface that helps users tag and share photos and videos more easily. There is a 5 MP camera with Carl Zeiss optics included. What's more, it is capable of recording 16:9 video with a resolution of up to 848 x 480 pixels@ 25fps.

The all new Nokia N900 is the next generation inspired from the very popular Nokia N800 and Nokia N810 that were released in 2007. The much awaited Nokia N900 will be offered in select markets by October, 2009 for an estimated price of about Rs. 35,050 /- (EUR 500), excluding sales taxes and subsidies.
