Blackberry phones are very much like the 'marmite' of the mobile world, you either love them or hate them. Most peoples first experience of a Blackberry handset is usually when they are presented with one from their place of work as a business communications tool to keep in touch with the office via email and voice.
The strange thing is though that the phones are not overly good looking, in fact far from it but they do everything they are supposed to and quickly become indispensable work tools keeping the user up to date, informed and connected.
The keypad layout found on all Blackberry handsets is very different to that of other mobile phones and PDAs, instead of having the simple 12 standard keys found on other handsets they instead offer a full Qwerty keyboard format with 10 of the buttons doubling up as the numbers for quick dialling.
This set up works extremely well for quickly writing emails, presentations and text messages and sometimes makes hard work of using a normal mobile phones keypad.
The Blackberry range of phones has slowly been evolving over the past few years continually offering new technology and features to help with the day to day organisation of it users, the latest release from the manufacturer takes things one step further with a very new technology along with upgraded features and software.
The new Blackberry 8310 Curve is a direct upgrade to the 8300 model released last year, this new handset offers everything that the original did in terms of specifications and features but has one added technology that is a first for Blackberry, GPS Navigation thanks to Vodafone Sat Nav.
This new feature turns the handset from a normal PDA phone into a Satellite Navigation System helping users with journey planning, route finding and avoiding traffic jams.
The Blackberry 8310 uses its built-in maps database in conjuction with Vodafone Sat Nav to evolve into a powerful all-in-one navigation system packed into a very small and stylish design, Although the navigation system is off board, route plans are downloaded from a Central Server ensuring that you always have the most up to date information to hand.
Other features on offer include a 2.0 megapixel camera with LED flash, 5 x digital zoom and support for video recording and playback via an on-board media player. There is also GPRS and EDGE technology which allows for fast download speeds of new mobile content such as ringtones, games, applications and email attachments as well as access to Vodafone Live to keep up to date with breaking news stories, new music and other featured entertainment.
The handset can be connected directly to a PC using a miniUSb for uploading new files, other connections include Bluetooth for wireless data transfer between compatible devices and handsfree car kits for safe driving.
To store the multitude of photos, video clips, games, music and new applications the 8310 has an expandable memory of up to 4GB.
This is a phone for hard working, organised people who appreciate that technology can help them in their busy lives and with the inclusion of Vodafone Sat Nav services negates the need to carry multiple devices from office to car.
