Sony Ericsson New Brand - XPERIA
Sony Ericsson kicked off the 2008 Mobile World Congress in Barcelona with the announcement of not only another new phone but a whole new brand called XPERIA, this actually happened before the conference had even started - seemingly they thought it was too good a scoop to wait until it had all kicked off. The XPERIA range appears to be a new range of smartphones to run alongside Sony Ericsson's popular Walkman and Cybershot ranges. Sony Ericsson have previously had a run of smartphones with the 'P' range - however these were often seen as big brick-like phones and quite undesirable.
The mobile leading the XPERIA range is the X1, not to be confused with the old o2 X1 - which is very unlike a smartphone! It features a great 3 inch touchscreen as well as a slide out QWERTY keyboard, in an arc slider style - this slides out at an angle, instead of
The XPERIA X1 has a 3.15 megapixel camera, with autofocus and flash, it also has a built-in GPS receiver, and runs on the Microsoft Windows Mobile 6.0 operating system. It has a touchscreen that has a customisable display allowing 9 shortcuts on the main screen, as well as ordinary buttons at the base of the screen.
It would seem that the XPERIA X1 is going after the Apple iPhone market, while it has similar features, and a nice big screen for browsing the web and watching videos, it does seem to appeal more to the business person with it's standard keyboard.
